Valérie Erlich

Valérie Erlich is a lecturer in sociology at the Université Côte d'Azur and an associate researcher at URMIS (Research Unit on Migration and Society, Université Côte d'Azur, Paris Cité, IRD, CNRS). She co-directs the Education, Youth, and Otherness Research Group at URMIS and is affiliated with the Laboratoire interdisciplinaire de recherche sur l'enseignement supérieur (LIRES) at the Université de Montréal.
A specialist in the transformation of higher education and the student world in France for over 25 years, she is particularly interested in student mobility and internationalization. Her expertise is based on solid management experience, notably as director of the OVE at the University of Nice (1999-2007) and member of the steering committee of the national OVE (2007-2012)
She has conducted large-scale quantitative surveys and published numerous scientific works, including two reference books: Les nouveaux étudiants (1998) and Les mobilités étudiantes (2012). Her recent publications include a review article, “La triple torsion des mobilités étudiantes” (Agora Débats / Jeunesses, 2021), a book chapter, "Les mobilités internationales des étudiants français : quelles évolutions depuis 20 ans? “ (Être étudiant avant et pendant la crise sanitaire, ed. M.-P. Belgith et al., 2023), a thematic dossier published under the title ”Les mobilités étudiantes à l’épreuve des politiques d’internationalisation et des nouvelles dynamiques circulatoires mondiales “ (Journal of International Mobility, 2024), as well as a chapter in a book entitled ”Distance and hybrid learning: new relationships with higher education" (forthcoming).
